The modern British Scimitar Scout tank might appear as something the men of the western desert could grasp in 1941. Its size and armament was equivalent to the British Matilda II tank below. The Matilda’s 70mm armor was impenetrable to most of the Italian AT guns, which made that tank a fearsome opponent, even when encountered in small numbers, as in the British attack at Bardia during Operation Compass.
